About Amanda Rice

I moved to Cambria from New Orleans' French Quarter 7 years ago. I fell in love with Cambria and my fellow Cambrians at the Valentine's Day Ball/Mayor's Race Inauguration that year, when the new honorary mayor took the reins from the Fire Dog. I have volunteered with a number of local nonprofits - starting with managing rummage sales at H.A.R.T., through the Mayoral campaigns of Tim Mayer and Kim Maston and Cambria Anonymous Neighbors. I worked at the Community Center for a couple of years, organizing the 4th and 5th Annual Gene Cerise Country Coast Classic Bike Ride events. In May 2006, I was elected to the North Coast Advisory Council, Area 8. In addition to creating the NCAC website, I was treasurer for one year and now serve as vice-chair. Pre-Cambria: I was raised in the SF East Bay Area, earned degrees from Chico State (B.A. English) and Tulane University (Master of Arts in Teaching) and taught high school English in New Orleans Public Schools. Why did I move here? I was ready for small town life (I thought) and was definitely ready to have a yard so I could have a dog. (I now have two - Max and Trent) And Cambria is where my best friend Christine Quinn lives. My husband and I were trying to decide between here and Portland. His parents, who live in SLO, offered to help us buy a house here so we would choose Cambria over Portland and voila! Here we are!
