Closing State Parks is Not a Workable Solution

After the overwhelming rejection of the ballot measures on May 19, the Governor has come up with one way to make up some of the multi-billion dollar state budget gap: Close state parks. The Governator made a similar suggestion a little over a year ago. No parks were closed at the time. This time, the campaign to keep the parks open began in earnest – almost before the official announcement.

State Parks (like Hearst Castle and Julia Pfeiffer in Big Sur) don’t take in enough money to sustain their operation. I’d argue that closing them doesn’t eliminate the the expense for running these places – maintenance must be provided and and police patrols have to be stepped up to prevent vandalizaton and theft – and that, too costs money.

One Response to Closing State Parks is Not a Workable Solution

Closing State Parks is a very bad idea for all California people. It’s ours and we want access to it. The Government owns the best real estate. I know the Government control people like this fact the Government owns the best real estate and controls private property but now we all suffer from this reality as owning real estate and controlling private property give the Government the ability to do any thing they want, like closing it from the people and keeping us off it. It’s bad for the people to have this Government control and now we all see this reality.
I wish it was just the Republican Governors fault as reported by journalist. The problem with this is it’s not true. Bummer, because this could be solved easily. But the truth is the Democratics have controlled House and Senate for almost 50 years have been spending all all the tax money with out responsibility or accountability and why we are broke. There are solutions, but politics, Government Union workers given lifetime employment with super expensive wages and benefits way better than other workers, have broken us financially. Regulation, the highest taxes in the country already and litigation costs has chased so many tax paying business away already. Raising taxes will lower non-Government employment even more reducing overall tax revenue. Bummer, I wish this was not true. 24 Billion short, I can’t even relate to a negative cash flow like that. I guess the throwing money at every problem is over. But I do hope we get our Parks back, they are for everybody.
