H.A.R.T. Gives Back – Spay/Neuter Vouchers Reduce Cost & Unwanted Pet Population

From Homeless Animal Rescue Team Shelter Director, Diana Duncan: Beat the Heat! Spay pets now.

The financial outlook may be gloomy, but there’s good news! Funds are available through H.A.R.T. right now to help you cover the cost of altering your pets ASAP. Unaltered pets begin to come into heat in January and February and give birth 2 months later.

PLEASE take advantage of this limited-time offer, as it’s been an unusual and VERY LONG kitten season for everybody in the pet rescue business. It’s wintertime…not usually a time for new litters, but there was a litter born at the SLO pound just before Christmas.  H.A.R.T. still has plenty of kittens at our adoption center in Cambria! We have too much of a good thing already; so we’ve got to turn off the ever-flowing faucet of litter after litter being born. And it’s especially important in these critical, economic times. More kittens means more mouths to feed and keep healthy.

Funds for this program, which provides a $25 voucher per animal to be altered, and a list of low cost vets in the area, is available through the “Spay It Forward”  grant program of PetSmart and Woods Humane Society. The vouchers are available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Call HART at 927-7377, or go by the H.A.R.T. shelter at 1500 Main St. in Cambria from 12-5 daily. You can also contact them by email at coldnoses@slohart.org

If your pet is already “fixed” but you still want to do your part to reduce the litters born this year, you could sponsor a voucher (or more)  for another pet in our community, contact H.A.R.T.  now.  Make this a New Year’s Resolution and commit to making a real difference now.
