Yesterday, Tammy Rudock met with members of the Cambrians for Fiscally Responsible CCSD and provided a very rough draft of the proposed budget with rate increases. The draft will be part of a more finished packet of information the CCSD will provide at the Rates and Budget Workshop on May 13 (5:30pm at the Vets’ Hall). At a CFRC rates committee meeting this morning, quite a few questions were raised. More will surely be raised as more people have the time to review the drafts. The committee plans to meet again next Friday to address specific concerns, questions and criticisms.

The district has proposed rate increases of 12% by 9-1-08 and 14% by 7-1-09. They have not recommended any budget cuts. The citizens have requested the district meet us part way and cut costs. They instead have chosen to resort, and reshuffle expenses between enterprise funds and governmental funds so it appears they have cut costs, but they have just resorted the costs and taken them off the enterprise funds.
I am not in favor of increases without cuts.
It is only fair, if the CCSD is committed to the community, that they give a little in the form of operating cost cuts if the community is expected to give a little in the form of rate increases to make up for a historical lack of CCSD fiscal responsibility. I do not feel this draft rate proposal and draft budget indicate that the CCSD HEARS the CFRC nor that they take any responsibility for the budget problems the CCSD faces. They just charge the community more money to fix the budget/operating problems. SSDD.
Just my opinion.
