    Thank you, Charlotte, for printing the District’s lobbying expenses as reported to the State of California. The total from 1999 is in excess of $615,000! This is an incredible waste of ratepayers’ funds. What do we have to show for all this lobbying? Next to nothing. There are not even any reports from the lobbyists as to their successes, if any. In my opinion, the District is a laughing stock for its excessive fees for consultants. They seem to have to hire a consultant to open the office in the morning. The total for lobbyists is an insult.

    Going back to 1999 takes in at least three different board makeups. You can’t blame the current regime for that.

    I agree that the lack of progress is an outrage. But I would suggest that the high cost of lobbying is a result of the opposition to progress that comes from within. If Cambria would go to the approving agencies with a united voice the lobbying might not be necessary.

    The lobbyists are giving voice to the silent majority who are busy managing their own lives (and probably not reading this BB).
